August 13, 2010 (Ocho Rios, Jamaica) – Newton Marshall and the rest of the Jamaica Dogsled Team are preparing to head North to begin training for the 2010-11 racing season. Marshall is scheduled to depart for Alaska the end of August.

Marshall and the rest of the JDT are doing what most Jamaicans about to head to a colder climate would do – they are experiencing some of the best adventure tours Jamaica has to offer, at Chukka Caribbean Adventures.

“I’m looking forward to starting training, but Jamaica is really hard to leave behind,” said Marshall. “The JDT is part of the Chukka family, so Robb and I thought it would be a great idea to enjoy some of the best tours in Jamaica before we go our separate ways for the next few months.”

Marshall is the first to head North to begin training. He will be in Alaska from the beginning of September until the end of March 2011 as he prepares to compete in the 2011 Iditarod as well as the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race in Wyoming. The team’s latest musher, Jermain Burford, will begin training for his races in December. Robb heads to Canada the end of January and is hoping to continue where he left off after a highly successful season in 2010, which included his first win in Cannington, Ontario.

“During the winter we compete hard and enjoy the opportunity to do what we love,” said Robb. “We also get to introduce people to the sport of sled dog racing here at Chukka throughout the summer with the JDT tours. We thought this last month before Newton leaves would be the perfect time to have a bit of fun on the other tours visitors to Chukka enjoy every day.”
